Commercial Break: iPhone4 / AT&T (Wanna Bet)
When I first started hearing of iPhone’s ability to surf the web while talking on the phone on the AT&T network I thought, “What’s the big deal? I don’t need to surf the web while talking on the phone. And don’t all smartphones and carriers allow you to do that?”
I quickly realized that, no, all phones don’t allow you to do that and, yes, there are times I want to (or need to) talk and surf the web at the same time.
This commercial features one guy in a diner talking to his friend on his iPhone4 (which is on the AT&T network) whom he has a $10 bet with. The bet involves a debate on what year “Whoomp There It Is” by Tag Team was made. The guy in the diner claims it was 1995 while his friend on the the other end says its 1993.
While the debate goes on, the guy in the diner navigates to Wikipedia on his iPhone which tells him that the song, in fact, was made in 1993. He quickly hangs up embarrassed.
The commercial is a good way to remind people that the AT&T 4G and iPhone4 has some small, but important, features that may cause you to pick it over another phone or service. It targets multi-taskers, who continue using their phone as a mini-computer even while they are talking on it. It doesn’t just repeat 4g over and over, drilling a term in people’s head that they really have no knowledge of. The commercial gives a real-life example that could actually happen between two friends, anywhere.
