Featured Friday Freebie: Evernote

So this was the year I decided I would take my business paperless. While streamlining my business I figured I would also be reducing my carbon footprint.

My system for keeping up with passwords and taking notes had gotten a bit messy. It was a notebook of scribble on hundreds of pages. Whenever I needed to refer to a particular note I would turn through months (sometimes years) of notes to find that bit of info. So you can see how cumbersome that could become over time.

So Evernote was just that free (although there is a paid version) tool I needed to change my note-taking life around.

What Is Evernote?

Evernote is a suite of software and services designed for notetaking and archiving. A “note” can be a piece of formatted text, a full webpage or webpage excerpt, a photograph, a voice memo, or a handwritten “ink” note. Notes can also have file attachments. Notes can be sorted into folders, then tagged, annotated, edited, given comments, searched and exported as part of a notebook (From Wikipedia)

How Does It Work?

Features

  • Captures typed text, ink, video and audio notes
  • Allows notes to be synched, searched and managed across multiple device
  • Ability to search by keyword, tag or even printed and handwritten text inside images

Also within the Evernote family there are products that extends its functionality.

What I found most beneficial about Evernote is its ability to synch to my iPhone and iPad. I can add and manage notes from anywhere and they are immediately saved on all my available devices. The problem I was having when I was using my notebook was that I had to always have it with me to reference a note I had taken or a password I needed.

In today’s business being efficient is key to succeeding and Evernote provides a step in the right direction.
